2024 NFL Draft Notes: Houston Texans Have a Solid, If Unspectacular, Stake

The Texans didn’t get a first-round pick, but they did get a few quality players, including a starting cornerback and a developing offensive tackle. Their first four picks have a chance to be immediate contributors, which is all you can ask for without a first-round pick. It’s not the sexy draft the Texans got last year when they got C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., but it’s a draft that will help strengthen the team’s foundation.

Lassiter will feel right at home playing for DeMeco Ryans and the Texans. Lassiter is a physical cornerback with elite short-yardage quickness and strong tackling ability. His lack of long-yardage speed will likely leave him in the slot in the NFL, but that’s okay given Derek Stingley Jr.’s emergence as a top-tier cornerback. Lassiter gives the Texans another young, talented defensive back and is an unusual physical force for a cornerback.

This pick has a chance to pay off big down the line, but Fisher faces a steep learning curve early in his career. He turned 21 in March and is still growing physically to become the type of player he can be later on. Calling this a bad pick doesn’t seem right, but the floor is a little lower on Fisher than some other tackles. However, he has the talent to be a huge pick for the Texans, even if not right away.
