Several violent incidents and a fatal accident on Sunday morning throughout Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A series of violent incidents and a fatal pedestrian accident occurred throughout Philadelphia, prompting local authorities to launch an ongoing investigation.

Early Sunday morning in the 24th Precinct, a 39-year-old man was stabbed once in the left shoulder in the 400 block of E. Allegheny Avenue. After walking to St. Christopher’s Hospital, he was taken to Temple University Hospital by private ambulance. Despite efforts, no crime scene, arrests or weapons have been identified and East Detectives are continuing the investigation.

At about the same time in the 2nd Precinct, a 43-year-old black man suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the 1400 block of Kerper Street. He was pronounced dead by Medic 12 at 3:24 a.m. The scene was secured, but no further arrests or weapons were reported. Homicide detectives are investigating.

In the 25th Precinct, a 46-year-old man was shot in the left foot in the 4100 block of N. Broad Street at approximately 12:48 a.m. He was transported to Temple University Hospital in stable condition by private vehicle. Since no crime scene was found, no arrests were made, and no weapons were recovered, this case remains open for the Shooting Investigation Group (SIG).

A similar incident occurred in the 15th Precinct, where a 28-year-old woman was shot in the face in the 4700 block of Longshore Avenue at approximately 12:46 a.m. She was initially taken to Nazareth Hospital and later to Temple University Hospital by private ambulance. With no known motive, arrests or weapons, SIG is continuing to investigate.

In the 18th Precinct, a 40-year-old man was shot in the right leg at around 11:46 p.m. on the corner of 51st Street and Larchwood Avenue. He refused medical treatment at the scene. The crime scene was secured, but since no arrests were made and no weapons were found, many questions remain unanswered. This investigation is also being conducted by the SIG.

Separately, a tragic incident occurred Saturday afternoon in the 9th Precinct at 700 N. Broad Street that left a pedestrian fatally injured. A 24-year-old woman driving a silver 2022 Nissan Rogue struck Visva Varathakumar, who was attempting to cross Broad Street. He sustained severe head injuries after landing on the hood of the car and hitting the windshield. He was pronounced dead at 7:13 p.m. after being taken to Jefferson Hospital. The Crash Investigation Division (CID) was notified by the coroner at 8 p.m.

This series of events reflects a violent weekend in Philadelphia, with numerous investigations still ongoing.
