Pennsylvania woman charged with child abuse

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of Victoria M. Carney, a 27-year-old New Cumberland resident, who is charged with possession of child sexual abuse material. Attorney General Michelle Henry reported that Carney is charged with 19 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communications facility, all of which are classified as felonies.

Carney, who was arrested Wednesday, is accused of possessing files showing the abuse of young children. After her arraignment, the court set bail at $250,000.

Attorney General Henry stressed the importance of being vigilant against online predators, stating, “This proactive investigation into online file sharing has allegedly uncovered a cache of disturbing files depicting very young children. My office is committed to finding predators who lurk in online forums and attempt to exploit our most vulnerable citizens, children.”

The charges stemmed from a tip to the Attorney General’s Child Sex Offenders Unit, which traced the uploading of the illegal materials to Carney via the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). A search warrant for Carney’s Rose Hill Drive residence resulted in the seizure of electronic devices containing the incriminating material.

It is important to note that these charges are merely allegations and Carney is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
