1 dead and 9 injured in head-on collision in Kosciusko County

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – One person is dead and nine were injured in a head-on collision Saturday night in Kosciusko County.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that officers were called to a crash just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday night after receiving calls about a two-vehicle crash. The crash occurred on County Road 150 West, just south of County Road 400 North.


When officers arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles, a Tesla and a black Chevrolet SUV.

Initial investigations revealed that the Tesla, driven by 31-year-old Anish Daita of Warsaw, was traveling north on CR 150 West and was left of the center line when it collided head-on with the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 44-year-old Joseph L. Criswell of Milford, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner. There were six juvenile passengers in the SUV, all of whom were treated for various injuries. Three of the passengers were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, two of whom were airlifted and one was airlifted by EMS.

Daita suffered internal injuries and was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment. Two other adult passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
