El Al plane has to make emergency landing in Turkey – Israel News

An El Al plane that took off from Warsaw on Sunday had to make an emergency landing at Turkey’s Antalya airport due to a medical incident involving a passenger, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

Israeli media reported that passengers were told they would have to expect a delay of several hours on the ground in Turkey without being allowed to leave the plane. Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, all direct flights from Israel to Turkey have been cancelled.

The plane also needed to be refueled, and one of the airport employees refused to refuel the plane, which, according to Israeli media, led to a delay in the plane’s takeoff.

Maariv quoted El Al’s response to the incident as saying: “El Al flight LY5102 from Warsaw to Tel Aviv landed at Antalya airport after one of the passengers experienced a medical incident. After consulting with the doctor who treated the passenger on the plane, it was decided that the plane should land urgently in order to evacuate the passenger to the hospital as soon as possible.”

Delays due to Turkish permits

KAN reported that the plane had initially received permission to refuel at Antalya airport, but Turkish political parties delayed this decision on the grounds that permits were required for refueling. They also pointed out that due to the lack of refueling facilities, the plane would take off without refueling and was expected to land in Israel or Cyprus.

This is an evolving story.
