38-year-old hospital guard arrested for raping and sexually abusing patients at night – ChimpReports

Police in Gulu City West arrest a night watchman for rape and aggravated rape.

Newton Acaye, a security guard at St. Philip Health Center II in Kanyagoga, was arrested on charges of rape and aggravated sexual assault of a 15-year-old minor.

Aswa West Police Officer David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident and said the case was registered under CRB 255/2024.

Mudong said the incident occurred at 1 a.m. on June 29, 2024, at the health facility where the victim was admitted as a patient.

According to the preliminary report submitted to the police by the victim, the suspect is said to have picked up the victim from the ward where she was admitted between 1am and 6am on June 29, 2024 and taken her outside to the guardhouse at the entrance of the health facility. He began attacking her and threatening to kill her with a bow and arrow before raping her twice amid serious threats.

After raping the victim, the suspect chased her away, who then went to Kirombe Police Station and reported the incident.

Detectives under the leadership of SOCO visited the crime scene and documented it. Statements of relevant witnesses were recorded and suspects were arrested and detained.

The victim underwent PEP after the suspect was tested for PF24A and found to be HIV positive.

According to Mudong, investigators are currently actively compiling the file before submitting it to the chief prosecutor for review and legal advice before the suspect is brought before the court.

According to Uganda’s penal code, serious sexual assault can be punished with life imprisonment or, at most, death.
