Summer weather isn’t the only thing getting warmer these days.

The action on the court at the Houston Summer Basketball League was just as fiery.

Forget the fact that most players are BFFs (that’s “buddies” for those of you from my generation) off the pitch.

It’s a battle royale every night after kickoff as players defend the hoop and dive for loose balls like it’s the NCAA Final Four.

As most of the players are from the region, they have been playing together and against each other since the youth leagues and beyond.

The 2024 edition features 11 teams competing in triple headers on match nights.

Houston Playground head honcho Tom Ballingall is the league coordinator with invaluable assistance from Kendrick’s Jake Gratzinger.

The league will continue throughout the summer where temperatures could become even more stifling.

That won’t stop players from scrambling on the hot asphalt and giving it their best… not even close.
