Downey man shot dead by police after allegedly setting off fireworks and getting into an argument with his neighbor

DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) – A man was shot in his home by a police officer in Downey.

The incident occurred Saturday evening near Stewart and Gray Road. Officers responded to a report of a “male subject causing a disturbance.”

According to witnesses, the man, who reportedly suffered from mental health issues, was setting off fireworks in the backyard when he got into an argument with a neighbor.

Downey police said officers approached the man and the shooting occurred during the investigation.

The man died at the scene. None of the officers were injured.

The Ministry of Justice has arrived at the crime scene and is conducting the investigation, police said.
