1 dead and 1 injured after shooting on I-59 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WIAT) – Birmingham police are conducting a homicide investigation after one man was killed and another injured on I-59 South Saturday night.

According to BPD, officers arrived on I-59 South near the 1st Avenue North exit shortly after 10 p.m. for a report of a person being shot. Upon arrival, officers found two adult males with gunshot wounds in a vehicle off the road. Birmingham Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced one of the men dead. The second man was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates an unknown suspect fired shots at the victim’s vehicle on I-59 South. Officers believe it was a targeted shooting. No one is in custody. Anyone with information can contact BPD at 205-254-1764.
