Teen on electric scooter crashes into HPD patrol car in downtown Houston

A 16-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after crashing into a police cruiser while riding an electric scooter last night, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Crawford and Rusk streets in downtown Houston. Police reported that the HPD Downtown Unit was traveling through the intersection with a green light when the teen struck the patrol car.

The collision sent the scooter under the vehicle and the teen over the hood. The 16-year-old began vomiting for a long time before Houston Fire Department arrived. He was transported in critical condition to a local trauma center, where he is expected to survive.

The police officer involved in the incident was not injured. Authorities noted there were numerous cameras in the area and were reviewing the footage as part of their investigation.
