Following the 3-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs, eleven fans were injured due to an escalator malfunction at the Milwaukee Brewers’ American Family Field.

The malfunction caused “an increased rate of descent.” Five of the injured were treated at Brewers stadium, while the other six were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Among the injured was CHGO Chicago producer Greg Braggs Jr.

Braggs Jr. described the terrifying ordeal in a post on X, recalling the moment the escalator gave way with over 100 people on it. “I was one of the people stuck in that thing,” he said. “A large portion of our group was on the escalator when it completely gave way with over 100 people on it.”

“Probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me. My knee is broken, but in the end I was lucky that it wasn’t worse.”

Milwaukee also issued a statement and thanked the medical staff for their quick response. “Following the conclusion of today’s game, there was a malfunction of an escalator at American Family Field that took fans from the stands to the box,” the Brewers’ statement said. “Our on-site doctor and emergency medical services were immediately on the scene and we are grateful for their quick response.”

The Brewers and Cubs will play the deciding game of the series on Sunday. The teams are tied 1-1 before kickoff at 1:10 p.m. Milwaukee hopes to avoid another loss to former Cubs manager Craig Counsell, who will leave the Brewers in 2023.
