Teen shot dead by friend playing with gun in southwest Houston apartment

A teenager was fatally shot at a southwest Houston apartment complex early this morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting around 2:30 a.m. in the 9100 block of Fondren. When they arrived, firefighters found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Despite the efforts of Houston firefighters, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information suggests three young men were in the apartment while their parents were away. According to HPD, one of the teens was playing with a gun when it accidentally discharged, striking the victim. The shooter, aged around 13 or 14, fled with his weapon.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect’s whereabouts to contact HPD.
