Three drowning accidents were reported on Saturday, including two children


On Saturday, June 29, three drowning accidents were reported across the country, including two involving children.

Police reported that a 14-year-old child is missing after he apparently drowned in the Iranamadu tank in Mankulam. The incident occurred when five school children tried to bathe in the tank on Saturday afternoon and one of them allegedly drowned.

To find the missing child, a search operation was launched involving SL Navy divers and local residents.

In another incident on Saturday afternoon, a 56-year-old man drowned while bathing in the sea in Pelana area of ​​Weligama. His body was recovered on Saturday evening after it was washed up on Weligama beach. The victim was identified as a carpenter from Wedamullawatta, Ramboda.

In another tragic incident, a five-year-old child drowned while bathing in a swimming pool in North Batagoda district of Kandana on Saturday evening.

The child, a resident of Dematagoda in Colombo, was initially admitted to Ja-ela Hospital by his father and later shifted to Ragama Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Kandana Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
