Rain and wind in the forecast for Pittsburgh

Severe Weather Alert Day: Rain and wind are forecast for Pittsburgh

An isolated thunderstorm is also possible on Thursday

Yes, it’s definitely a little cooler for us. And we still have some rain and we have a system that will impact us. BUT I HAVE DECIDED TO EXPAND IT TO AN ALARM DAY, NOT BECAUSE WE EXPECT SEVERE STORMS, BUT BECAUSE THERE WILL BE STRONGER WIND GUSTS IN SOME NEIGHBORHOODS AND SOME NEWS OF HEAVY RAIN THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SOME FLOODING FOR SOME STORMS. So I’m going to break it down here. But overall it’s calm and calm for many of us this morning, the clouds are moving in, lots of showers are fading and the warm front is fading away at the moment, which is good news. There were a few storms there in western Virginia and Ohio, but right now they’re moving through the Morgantown area, a little bit past Garrett, a spotty shower, but we’re watching again. This depression is still to the west of us. SOME OF THESE SHOWERS DEVELOPED NEAR COLUMBUS AND ANOTHER VERY LIGHT RAIN, BUT AS STORM FORECAST IS, AN ISOLATED RISK OF SEVERE STORMS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR MUCH OF THE REGION. I don’t think we’ll see anything like what some neighborhoods experienced yesterday, but there’s still a chance that some of these winds could really get stronger in some places, particularly south of the city. AND WE COULD HAVE SOME OF THESE HEAVY RAIN EXPOSURES. BUT HERE IS THE SETUP. Much of the thunderstorm activity will occur in the warm sector, between the warm front and the cold front that will remain south of us. BUT WHEN THIS LOW STARTS PUSHING A LITTLE FURTHER EASTWARD, WE HAVE A CHANCE OF SOME OF THOSE WINDS REALLY PICKING UP BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE SOME STRONGER WIND GUSTERS. Usually on the backside of the low. AND SINCE THIS STARTS TO PASS BETWEEN 2 AND 4:00 AM, ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF CITY, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL THAT THERE MAY BE SOME OF THESE STRONGER, DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND SOME OF THE NEWS OF HEAVY RAIN. IT DOESN’T LAST LONG. It’s going out pretty quickly, but that’s why I decided to update it back to an alert day. WITH THIS POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER. NOTHING. AGAIN LIKE WHAT WE SAW ON THE WEEKEND YESTERDAY. Saturday will be an impact day as we will have some nasty showers heading our way Saturday afternoon and evening. Here’s a slightly closer look. IN THE FIRST ROUND, SOME HEAVY RAIN COMES TO WASHINGTON. WESTMORELAND DOWN TO GREENE AND FAYETTE, WHICH ENTER THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH BETWEEN 1 AND 2:00 AM. A LITTLE BREAK IN THE ACTIVITY BEFORE SIX 7:00. WE WILL STILL SEE SOME NEWS OF HEAVY RAIN, BUT AGAIN THIS DOES NOT SHOW THE WIND GUSTS. I believe some of these wind gusts may increase south of the city. And then as we continue overnight into early Friday, there will still be a few patchy showers, but the intensity will now ease as we move into Friday. A spotty shower, very isolated. I really think most of the day will be dry. IF YOU GO TO THE PIRATE GAME IT SHOULDN’T BE BAD. On Saturday you will reach dry areas where it will be foggy in the morning and rain will return around lunchtime. So it’s an impressive day with those pesky showers continuing into the early evening. Here’s how much rain we expect. POTENTIALLY ABOUT A QUARTER TO A HALF OF AN INCH. SOME LOCATIONS, ESPECIALLY IN WESTMORELAND, FAYETTE AND WASHINGTON. EVEN SOMERSET AGAIN ALONG INTERSTATE 70 SOUTH. There is a chance that there will be some periods of heavier rain. So on our alert day there will be isolated showers, but then isolated storms are possible. The biggest threat to some of these storms today will be stronger wind gusts south of the city. HOW WE CONTINUE TONIGHT. STILL A FEW SPOTTY SHOWERS, at the latest some fog. We’re in the low 50s looking at your four day plus. FOR MORE FORECAST. It’s getting cooler heading into Mother’s Day weekend, but it’s coming back
