NOPD investigates fatal double shooting

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal double shooting in the Leonidas neighborhood Saturday morning. Police said they responded to a 911 call about shots fired at about 6:50 a.m. The NOPD said when they arrived at the apartment in the 1200 block of Monroe Street, two people, a man and a woman, were found with at least one gunshot wound to their bodies. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The New Orleans Police Department held a press conference to provide more information on the shooting. Police said the shooting was a case of domestic violence and they believe it was a murder-suicide. Area residents told WDSU they called 911 early in the morning, but police did not arrive on the scene until about 8 a.m. The NOPD said they are investigating the shooting, including when the first 911 call was made and when police found the bodies. This is an ongoing investigation and WDSU will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
