BlueCo in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Atlanta United left-back Caleb Wiley

The name of Caleb Wiley has recently been making the rounds of rumors, mainly in France, and mainly in conjunction with links to the BlueCo multiclub RC Strasbourg.

But a report published last night by The Athletic cast things in a slightly different light, putting Chelsea at the forefront of this story. It’s unclear if this was done purely for clicks, or if the young left-back’s destination within our multiverse has changed slightly. I suspect it’s the former, but it’s hard to be sure.

One thing is certain, however, Wiley fits BlueCo’s recruitment model: young, promising and with a lot of potential for future profit, financial or sporting.

The 19-year-old, who is set to represent the USMNT at the Paris Olympics later this month, already has several years of senior professional experience with Atlanta United, including more than 100 appearances at the USL and MLS levels combined over the past four years. (He made his debut for Atlanta United at 2 at 15 and his MLS debut at 17.) Primarily a left back, Wiley can also play higher up the wing if needed. He also has two senior international caps with the United States under his belt.

Wiley is still the most likely to end up in Strasbourg and is expected to be signed to BlueCo, but he may be a name to keep in mind for the future.
