Man killed in Bonita accident; U-Haul crashes into trees

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The driver of a U-Haul truck was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Bonita on Saturday, authorities said.

According to Chula Vista police, officers responded to several calls reporting a U-Haul had collided with a tree near the intersection of Villas Drive and Villas Court around noon.


Emergency crews found a critically injured 64-year-old man trapped in the vehicle. Police said the driver was eventually freed and firefighters began life-saving measures before transporting him to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to initial reports, the man was apparently in the U-Haul truck when it rolled down a hill for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck several trees, fatally injuring the driver. His identity has not yet been released.
