The Braves won 2-1 in extra innings, and while Adam Duvall was able to play the hero, the pitching staff saved the day for Atlanta all season. Offseason additions to the rotation, Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez, were both spectacular, while bullpen holdovers Pierce Johnson and Joe Jimenez were steady stalwarts. The team’s pitching staff finished fourth in baseball in fWAR, missing the preseason Cy Young favorite for most of the year, and that included brutal sixth-starter exits and two abominations from Max Fried to start the season. While the offense struggled to produce consistently over the last two months, the pitching staff held down the fort and kept the team afloat.
