1 person shot dead after allegedly pointing gun at police officers in Dayton

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead Saturday night, according to Dayton police.

Dayton police were called to the 500 block of Negley Place around 8 p.m. to address a problem involving a vacant home and a street party, according to a news release on the department’s X-account.

When officers arrived at the scene, police said a person was standing in the middle of the street. Police said the person pointed a firearm at officers who were approaching.

Two officers then fired their firearms at the person, the department said.

Officers provided medical assistance to the person before transporting him to the hospital.

According to police, the person was pronounced dead in hospital.

The Dayton Police Professional Standards Bureau is conducting a separate administrative investigation.
