Buffalo breaks daily precipitation record

In fact, the National Weather Service reported that as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday, 1.65 inches (42 mm) of rain had fallen in Buffalo. That’s a new daily record for June 29, surpassing the previous record of 0.83 inches (21 mm) set in 1897.

The weather was a bit more extreme to the south, where Potter and McKean counties had a tornado watch and flood watch at times Saturday.

With more precipitation in the forecast, the National Weather Service said it would provide an update on the record total shortly after midnight.
