Teenager arrested for murder of 42-year-old man: Sansom Park police

SANSOM PARK – A teenager was arrested for the murder of a 42-year-old man who was fatally shot after confronting two young men who, according to his family, had threatened them.

Richard Applegate’s family says he is killed on June 21 at 6:15 a.m. at home near Skyline Drive.

According to his family, the argument began when the two men falsely accused Applegate’s mother of calling the police that morning.

One of the suspects pulled a gun from his backpack and shot Applegate as he tried to protect his family. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Sansom Park police are not releasing any further information about the suspect because he is a minor, but said he was arrested within 30 minutes of the warrant being issued.

“There are no clear suspects in this case and it is believed to be an isolated incident,” said a press release from Sansom Park police.
