Forecast for Saturday night

A Yellow alert has been added to tonight’s forecast as a severe thunderstorm front, which has already prompted several tornado warnings in Pennsylvania, moves toward the area.

When this line arrives here, isolated severe storms are possible, with heavy rain and gusty winds being the greatest dangers.

After this first line passes through, several more severe storms may move through the region during the night.

Minimum temperatures will not rise above 21°C in most places and it can be very humid.

This will cause temperatures to rise again to above 30 to below 35 degrees Celsius, and due to high humidity, heat indices will be between above 35 and below 38 degrees Celsius, especially in the central and southern parts of New Jersey.

The breaks in the sun along with all that heat and humidity prepare the atmosphere for the development of strong to severe storms during the afternoon and evening hours. These storms can include damaging winds, hail, torrential rain, and even an isolated tornado or two.

When a tropical air mass is present, the storms can produce large amounts of rain, totaling 5 to 7.5 centimeters in some places. This can lead to flash flooding.
