SCSO conducts investigation into deaths in custody

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A death in the medical wing of the Sarasota Correctional Facility has sparked an investigation into a death in custody.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Kevin Mandujano Garcia was found unconscious near a recovery pod around 6:24 a.m. Saturday morning.

Medical staff attempted to take life-saving measures, but his death was pronounced shortly afterwards.

So far there have been no signs of trauma or injury, the SCSO is now awaiting the autopsy by the medical examiner.
