Death of Sarasota County inmate under investigation

SARASOTA, Florida. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating the death of an inmate that occurred early Saturday morning in the medical wing of the county correctional facility.

Kevin Mandujano Garcia, 33, of Sarasota was found unconscious in an escape pod at about 6:24 a.m. Correctional officials immediately notified medical personnel, who began life-saving measures.

Unfortunately, Mr. Garcia was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigation ongoing

The cause of death is still undetermined. No visible signs of injury or trauma were found on Mr. Garcia. The Sarasota County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
