(KRON) — Stockton police arrested a couple Wednesday on suspicion of injuring their child, police announced Friday.

At about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, police reported they were called to a Stockton hospital where a one-month-old baby had died. Medical personnel told police the boy suffered multiple injuries “consistent with abuse,” police said.

Police, along with investigators from the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA), then contacted the parents, 23-year-old Robert Meyer Sr. and 23-year-old Sareya Sexton. After an initial investigation, the couple was arrested on charges of murder and aggravated assault, according to police.

Meyer and Sexton were taken to the San Joaquin County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD at 209-937-8377.
