California Subway manager Monique Larios is attacked by customer George Sandoval for extra bacon

US News

He wanted a knuckle sandwich.

An angry Subway customer lashed out at a group of workers when they refused to put extra meat on his sandwich, forcing the store manager off work due to her potentially permanent injuries.

Manager Monique Larios was called to work after her employees argued with a customer about the amount of bacon on his sandwich at the Madera, Calif., store on May 1.

The customer, named George Sandoval, claimed he paid for twice as much meat as was already on the sub, according to KFSN.

Sandoval asked workers to put 12 extra slices of ham on the sandwich instead of the 6 extra he paid for the store, claiming they had proof of his exact order.

The customer then walked around the counter and unleashed a barrage of punches on Larios.

“I wasn’t expecting it. He came around the corner and I said, ‘What are you going to do, hit me over the ham?’ And he hit me,” Larios told the outlet. “He hit me and I could I only remember black.”

Because the thug towered over the worker, Larios said she had no chance.

“I’m 5’10” tall and this guy was 6’2″ tall and weighed almost 200 kilograms,” she said.

As Sandoval launched his attack, a quick-thinking customer rushed to the worker’s aid and snatched the animal away from the woman.

The good Samaritan jumped on Sandoval’s back and punched him in the face at least three times, allowing the workers to get to safety behind the counter.

Sandoval was arrested later that day and charged with assault.

Madera police criticized Sandoval’s behavior toward workers.

“Never. I think they went behind the counter and hit the manager,” Madera police Sgt. Brent Cedarquist said.

Larios claimed her injuries had forced her to miss work for more than a week since the attack, putting a strain on her family’s finances.

“I’ve missed work for over a week, I’m a single mom and rely on every paycheck to stay afloat,” she wrote on GoFundMe. “Because my eye is swollen shut and I can’t drive, I couldn’t work. I hate asking for help but I have no choice, I’m behind on my bills.

“I’m scared. I still can’t feel half of my face,” Larios told the outlet. “There could be permanent damage. I’ve never been so numb that my face feels like a mask.”

Larios, who plans to press charges against her attacker, criticizes him for allowing the situation to become violent instead of politely addressing it.

“I don’t deserve this at all. I was just doing my job,” she told the outlet. “There was nothing to complain about, the sandwich was prepared to our Subway standards. I don’t know why he didn’t even give me a chance to find out what he wanted.”

“Things didn’t have to happen the way they did with the flesh, and unfortunately I’m suffering the consequences while my attacker is free and working without a care, living life as if nothing had happened.”
