Heat warning issued for the entire Lowcountry on Sunday

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A heat advisory has been issued for all Lowcountry counties for Sunday.

From late Sunday morning through the evening, heat index values ​​are expected to be between 105 and 110 degrees Celsius across much of the region, with higher values ​​expected briefly in some locations.

Live 5 First Alert meteorologist Dorien Minor said Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley and Charleston counties are affected by this warning. Allendale, Hampton, Jasper and Beaufort counties are also affected.

The warning is valid on Sunday from 12 noon to 7 p.m.

A few isolated thunderstorms later in the day could provide some relief from the heat before 7 p.m.

The expected hot temperatures and high humidity can lead to heat illnesses.

Prolonged exposure to extreme heat outdoors can result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke if proper precautions are not taken.

Heat exhaustion is a condition accompanied by heavy sweating, weakness or tiredness, cool, pale, clammy skin, rapid, weak pulse, muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, headache, and fainting.

A person suffering from heat exhaustion should be moved to a cooler area and put on cool, wet clothing or take a cool bath. Immediate medical attention is needed if the person vomits or symptoms worsen or last for more than an hour.

Heat stroke may be accompanied by a throbbing headache, confusion, nausea, dizziness, a body temperature above 39.4 °C, hot, red, dry or clammy skin, rapid and strong pulse, fainting and loss of consciousness.

A person suffering from heat stroke should be taken to a hospital immediately.
