EURO 2024: Round of 16 match Germany-Denmark cancelled due to thunderstorm

The ongoing EURO 2024 round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, while fans are impatiently waiting for the match to resume. On the other hand, in the first header of the day, Switzerland knocked out Italy after a 2-0 win in Berlin and qualified for the quarter-finals.

The round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark was suspended by UEFA after a thunderstorm broke out in Dortmund just 30 minutes into the match. The match was tied 0-0 when lightning struck near Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.

The incident actually occurred in the 36th minute, with referee Michael Oliver signalling to abandon play before UEFA issued a statement announcing that play had been suspended.

“Due to the adverse weather conditions (thunderstorms and heavy rain) in Dortmund, it was decided to cancel the UEFA EURO2024 Round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark. UEFA will make an announcement regarding the resumption of play in due course,” UEFA wrote in a statement.
