Man was shot by another in self-defense, Tuscaloosa County authorities determined

A man was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa County early Saturday, apparently in an act of self-defense. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit reported that officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Stardust Drive around 3:14 a.m. on June 29 and found two men shot. A 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital with injuries and is expected to survive. The other man, identified as Reggie Coverson, 51, of Tuscaloosa, died at the scene. TVCU said after interviews were completed and the district attorney’s office reviewed the case, it was determined that Coverson appeared to be the aggressor in the incident and was shot in self-defense. No charges have been filed at this time. TVCU said evidence showed Coverson apparently shot the 23-year-old and then a third man shot Coverson. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit reported that officers were called to the 2000 block of Stardust Drive at approximately 3:14 a.m. on June 29 and found two men shot to death.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries and is expected to survive.

The other man, identified as Reggie Coverson, 51, of Tuscaloosa, died at the scene.

The TVCU said that after completing interviews and reviewing the case by the prosecution, it was determined that Coverson appeared to be the aggressor in the incident and was shot in self-defense.

No charges have been filed at this time.

According to TVCU, evidence indicated that Coverson apparently shot the 23-year-old and that a third man then shot him.

A Tuscaloosa County grand jury will also review the case.
