Fire captain killed in rafting accident – ​​SLCFD remembers his legacy

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Fire Department said Saturday that Captain Michael Harp died unexpectedly in what appears to be a rafting accident on the Green River.

“Captain Harp was with the Salt Lake City Fire Department for 27 years,” the fire department said in a press release. “He was a second generation firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father, who also served with the Salt Lake City Fire Department.”

Fire officials said Harp was a dedicated member of Utah Task Force One and was “particularly deployed to Ground Zero on September 11.”

The department said Harp dedicated his life to service and his legacy will be remembered by all who knew him.

The press release said the details of Harp’s death are still under investigation and asked that respect be extended to his family during this time.
