LIVE: Trams between cities in Greater Manchester suspended due to ‘police incident’

Tram services between two towns in Greater Manchester were suspended this evening as emergency services dealt with an incident.

Due to a police operation, all Metrolink services on the East Didsbury line between Rochdale and Oldham Mumps are currently suspended. The exact cause of the incident is not yet clear.




Tickets will be accepted on alternative public transport. In a statement on its website, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) apologised for any inconvenience.

A statement on the website reads: “Due to a police operation, there are no services between Rochdale Town Centre and Oldham Mumps. Tickets and passes are accepted on bus routes 57, 59, 81, 83, 114, 149, 181, 182, 409 and 411.”

Tram services have been suspended “until further notice,” according to the TfGM website.

In a statement, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: “Due to a police operation, there are no services between Rochdale Town Centre and Oldham Mumps. Tickets and passes are accepted on bus routes 57, 59, 81, 83, 114, 149, 181, 182, 409 and 411.”

Good evening. Due to a ‘police operation’ all trams on the East Didsbury line between Rochdale and Oldham Mumps are suspended. The exact cause of the incident is not yet known but Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and TfGM have been contacted for further information.
