Driver killed after Tesla plunges 300 feet down hill, officials say

POLLOCK PINES, Calif. (KOLO/Gray News) – A Tesla plunged about 300 feet down a hill from US Highway 50 in California on Tuesday.

The driver was ejected and killed, the El Dorado County Fire Protection District reported.

Emergency services initially had difficulty finding the scene of the accident after the driver’s wife received notification that the vehicle had been immobilized, the agency said.

Emergency responders navigated to the location on the north side of the highway using longitude and latitude coordinates provided by Tesla.

The crash site was about 3.5 miles east of Pollock Pines.

The agency said the driver was a man in his 40s who suffered blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responders found two booster seats in the vehicle, but the driver’s wife said the children were at home.

The recovery operation was described as labor-intensive by El Dorado County officials.
