Buffalo Sabers select Brodie Ziemer 71st overall in 2024 NHL Draft

Captain America has a home in the NHL.

On Saturday at the Sphere in Las Vegas, the Buffalo Sabers took forward Brodie Ziemer in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, at 71st overall.

Ziemer spent the 2023-24 season with the National Team Development Program (USNTDP), where he recorded 27 goals and 43 assists for 70 points in 61 games. Ziemer captained Team USA at the IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship, where he recorded three goals and nine assists for 12 points in seven games.

Ziemer is fast and has many of the qualities a general manager looks for in a prospect; he is fast, physical, makes hard forechecks and drives the play.

Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis ranked Ziemer as the 77th highest-ranked prospect.

“I like Ziemer. The University of Minnesota transfer isn’t a priority for anyone, but from what his teammates say, he’s still the guy they talk about and is a born leader. He’s the captain, so that makes sense, but he’s a solid scorer who’s smart enough to get out of sticky situations. I’m not sure about his skating, but I think he has a chance to become a good deep scorer at the next level. »

Ziemer has committed to play at the University of Minnesota for the 2024-25 NCAA season.

Ziemer joins Konsta Helenius and Adam Kleber among the Sabres’ 2024 NHL Draft picks so far. They should be next in line to pick the 161st pick.
