Six people were killed and eight others injured in a Russian attack on the city of Vilnius near the city of Zaporizhia in southern Ukraine, regional chief Ivan Fedorov said on Saturday.

Vilnius is located 29 kilometers northeast of the city of Zaporizhia, the largest city in the region under Ukrainian control.

Russia occupies large parts of the region.

“The Russians attacked the city of Vilna in Zaporizhia district, killing six civilians and wounding eight residents,” Fedorov said on social media.

“A critical infrastructure facility, a shop and residential buildings were damaged,” Fedorov added.

Russia claims to have annexed the Zaporizhia region, although it does not have full control there.

The attack came a day after an attack on the northern city of Dnipro in which one person was killed on Saturday, according to Kyiv.

Russia has attacked Zaporizhia and nearby cities during its offensive, but in recent weeks it has focused its efforts on the east of the country rather than the south.
