Three people charged with armed car theft of woman and four-year-old children

ALAMEDA – Three 18-year-old Oakland residents face felony charges in connection with the armed carjacking of a woman and two children in Alameda on Wednesday.

Marionna Haley, Isaiah Howard and Sariyah Barker are each charged with one count of auto theft and two counts of child abuse and weapon misuse, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release on Friday.

“Children are particularly vulnerable to gun violence,” said District Attorney Pamela Price. “The alleged use of a gun at the time of the carjacking while children were in the car was dangerous and is absolutely unacceptable in Alameda County.”

The car theft occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of Mound Street.

A 42-year-old woman and two 4-year-old children – a boy and a girl – were parked in front of a house when three suspects approached them and demanded the keys to their BMW SUV, Alameda police said. One of the suspects had a firearm.

The woman complied and was allowed to take the children with her. No injuries were reported.

The suspects then drove away in the BMW.

After the accident in San Francisco, authorities were able to locate the BMW and arrest the suspects.
