Armed man who escaped from New Haven DOC halfway house arrested: police – NBC Connecticut

An armed man who escaped from a Department of Correction halfway house in New Haven earlier this month was arrested in Bridgeport, police said.

Police said Juwaun Terry, 27, of Stratford, was taken into custody Thursday after escaping through the second-floor back door of an apartment building on Highland Avenue in Bridgeport.

According to authorities, police found a 9mm Glock pistol that Terry had discarded in the house before fleeing.

At the time of his arrest, he was considered an escapee from state custody, according to investigators. Authorities said Terry is a convicted felon and is on the state’s deadly weapon offender registry.

According to police, Terry was charged with seven gun-related offenses, including illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine and violating the state’s deadly weapon offender registry. He was also charged with violating a restraining order and obstructing an officer, police added.

Terry was returned to the custody of the state Department of Corrections after his arrest and his case was processed at the Bridgeport Police Department. It was later discovered that he had several warrants out for his arrest from other jurisdictions.

It is unclear why Bridgeport police were initially called to the Highland Avenue home. One additional arrest is expected in connection with that part of the incident.
