Jordanian man dies in accident in Maan

A Roya correspondent reported on Saturday that a citizen died in a fatal car accident in Shobak district of Ma’an governorate.

Rescue teams took the driver to Queen Rania Hospital in Petra, where he died of his injuries shortly afterwards.

In related news, the annual traffic accident report for 2023 issued by the Directorate of Public Security revealed that Jordan recorded 560 traffic-related deaths last year, a slight decrease compared to 562 deaths in 2022 and 589 in 2021. In 2020, the number of deaths was 461 and in 2019, 634.

The report, presented to Roya on Wednesday, highlights that the average daily death rate due to road accidents was 1.5 in both 2023 and 2022, a slight decrease from 1.6 in 2021 and 1.8 in 2019. In 2020, the rate was 1.3 deaths per day.

In addition, the death rate per 100,000 people was 4.9 in 2023, compared to 5 in 2022, 5.3 in 2021, 4.3 in 2020, and 6.1 in 2019. The number of deaths per 10,000 vehicles was 2.91 in 2023, compared to 3 in 2022, 3.3 in 2021, 2.7 in 2020, and 3.83 in 2019.
