FBI searches Stoneham home of man previously convicted of child pornography – NBC Boston

The Federal Bureau of Investigation searched the Stoneham, Massachusetts, home of a man previously convicted of distributing child pornography.

Neighbors on Hancock Street took photos of police officers at James McCarty’s home on Wednesday.

In March, McCarty was caught trying to enter the South Elementary School campus armed with two knives. Authorities have not said whether Wednesday’s search was related to that incident.

Investigators said McCarty was likely in a mental health crisis at the time of the incident in March. He never had contact with any children.

Parents criticized the district for not informing them of the incident until days later, and some called for Superintendent David Ljungberg to resign.

The school committee apologized to parents for the “distress” caused by the incident, and Ljungberg did not resign.

McCarty had already been registered as a level one sex offender for distributing child pornography following a 2013 conviction. Registration is no longer required for him. He was being investigated by the FBI Boston Joint Terrorism Task Force, NBC10 Boston learned after the incident at the school.
