China: China issues highest rain warning level |

Wuzhou, Guangxi, China – June 29, 2024 (Note: partially silent) Action: China’s National Meteorological Observatory issued a red rainstorm warning on Saturday, the most severe in its four-level weather warning system. Authorities warned of possible geological disasters in rain-affected regions. Some areas in Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Guizhou provinces are expected to be hit by downpours. Some regions are expected to see heavy rainfall of up to 280mm within 24 hours to 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Meteorological Center’s forecast. In response to the recent weather conditions, the country’s top meteorological agency and the Ministry of Natural Resources jointly issued geological disaster alerts, warning that flash floods may occur in eastern and central Anhui and Hubei provinces between Friday night and Saturday night, while parts of Hunan, Chongqing and Guizhou should also take precautions against possible rain-related geological disasters. The Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin has experienced its third flood this year since Saturday morning. The highest water level recorded by Wuzhou Hydrological Station in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was 20.00 meters at the time the flood peak was reached, exceeding the warning line by 1.5 meters.
