One person was killed and two others were hospitalized in a serious car accident in Diamond Bar early Saturday morning.

According to preliminary information, CHP officers were dispatched to the eastbound portion of Freeway 60 near the Lemon Avenue exit around 3 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a “chaotic scene,” as Omar Lewis of KTLA 5 described it.

A video obtained by KTLA shows the immediate aftermath of the collision, in which a wrecked vehicle came to rest on its roof near the left shoulder of the highway.

Passersby were seen attempting to pull some of the victims from the rubble using CPR. Rescue workers from the Los Angeles County Fire Department quickly arrived and used rescue shears to free them.

According to initial reports, the other driver was found lying on the road after being thrown from his car.

One of the three victims died, the other two were taken to nearby hospitals in unknown condition. Their identities were not disclosed.

Due to the accident, all but one lane of the eastbound 60 Freeway were closed and a SigAlert was issued for the affected section of road. A timetable for the full reopening of the freeway was not immediately set.

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
