Hülkenberg receives harsh punishment after Alonso incident

Nico Hülkenberg received a 10-second time penalty after an incident with Fernando Alonso on the track during the F1 sprint race in Austria.

The Haas driver was involved in an incident with Alonso on the track towards the end of the race while battling for position.

Alonso was forced into the run-off area after Hülkenberg’s right front tyre locked, preventing his Aston Martin competitor from turning.

The race management then saw a mistake by Hülkenberg and imposed a time penalty, which dropped him from 14th to 19th place in the classification.

“The driver of car 27 attempted to overtake car 14 at turn 3 but blocked and missed the apex,” said a statement from race control.

“The car understeered to the very edge of the track, preventing car 14 from turning and forcing the other driver off the track.”

Hülkenberg also received two penalty points on his super license, the first in 12 months.
