On an eventful day, an Akron man was arrested twice for theft in University Heights

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Once wasn’t enough for an Akron man who was arrested twice in an eventful day that included a hospital stay.

On June 21 at 1:00 p.m., anti-theft personnel at Macy’s, 2201 Warrensville Center Road, reported that they had arrested a 55-year-old shoplifting suspect from Akron.

After being caught in the act, the man claimed it was a medical emergency. Emergency services were called to the scene to treat the suspect, who was charged by police with theft. The stolen goods had a total value of $694.79.

Police gave the man a July 10 appearance in Shaker Heights Municipal Court before firefighters took him to a hospital.

Later that same day, at 3:55 p.m., police received a call from the manager of Green Road Liquor, 2181 S. Green Road, reporting that someone was in the process of stealing items.

That “someone” was the Akron man who hid six bottles of alcohol in a reusable shopping bag that he carried into the store.

This time, the total value of the stolen goods was $359.94. As it turned out, the man had forcibly removed the safety caps from the bottles.

The police charged the man again with theft and scheduled another court date. This time there was no medical problem.
