Three AFC teams top NFL offensive projections

The Buffalo Bills lost their top two receivers from the 2023 team, but the main piece remains in place.

With three-time NFL MVP finalist Josh Allen at the helm, the Bills offense again returns eight starters and projects to be in the top 10 in 2024. With NFL Media associate editor Gennaro Filice predicting the top 10 offenses, Buffalo landed at No. 8 overall.

Super Bowl LVIII participants San Francisco and Kansas City ranked first and second, respectively. The Bills were fourth overall among AFC teams, behind the Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals (5th) and Miami Dolphins (6th).

In 2024, Buffalo held Miami’s offense to 34 total points over two games, holding the Fins to more than 10.0 points below their average per game.

Led by Allen’s 44 combined touchdowns, the Bills averaged 25.3 points per outing last year (fifth in the NFL). While Allen, the ultimate dual threat, is the center of Joe Brady’s scheme, Buffalo has proven it can run the ball effectively with primary ball carrier James Cook. In addition to their RB1, the Bills welcome back four starting offensive linemen.

While ranking Buffalo’s offense 8th overall, Filice identified Allen as the unit’s “signature strength.” The author warned, however, that an “over-reliance” on Allen could turn into a “worrying weakness.”

From The 10 best NFL offenses in 2024?:

“A monster with a lightning arm and nimble feet standing at 6-foot-10 and weighing 220 pounds, Allen has been Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated quarterback in each of the last two regular seasons. … Allen has such rare physical talent that he can confuse defenses single-handedly, but that’s simply not a winning formula in an increasingly loaded AFC. »
