Xbox defeated Xbox One and none of us noticed

Out with the old and in with the new

While we all have our Xbox Series in the evenings

First launched in 2013, the Xbox One was the squarer successor to the Xbox 360 and the console of the moment until the Xbox Series X/S took over in 2020.

But now, more than 10 years later, and with the fourth generation of Xbox consoles still reigning supreme, the Xbox One has reached the end of its capabilities. Surprisingly, this already happened at the end of 2020 without any of us noticing. Ouch.

In a statement to The Verge, Microsoft announced that it was halting production of the Xbox One “to focus on production of the Xbox Series X/S.”

This isn’t surprising considering the Xbox One was discontinued in July 2020 and the Xbox One S followed at the end of the year.

This news comes after it was announced that the company would be closing four of Bethesda’s subsidiary studios: Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Studios and Roundhouse Games.

Since Tango Gameworks are the developers of the 2023 hit, HiFi Rush, It’s another big blow to the gaming industry.

On a slightly happier note, Xbox has announced a massive price cut for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, meaning members will have a large library of games available to them at a much cheaper price.
