ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – North Georgia continues to experience showers and storms that will continue into the early afternoon.

Storms until early afternoon

Showers and storms continue in North Georgia, particularly in the higher elevations of the mountains. Heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds are possible with these storms.

We expect a second wave of storms to move south into metro Atlanta around 8 a.m. These storms will continue until at least midday, if not the first part of your afternoon. These storms can also produce heavy rainfall, lightning, strong winds and isolated tornadoes.

All storms are expected to occur south of metro Atlanta around 3 p.m. and will be dry during the second half of the day.

Dry, cooler weekend

A few showers are possible on Friday morning. Otherwise, better weather is expected this Mother’s Day weekend with cooler highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s and mostly sunny skies!
