YouTube suspends monetization on Dr Disrespect’s channel as fallout from Twitch controversy continues

Dr Disrespect’s spiraling fall from grace continues after YouTube announced it had stopped monetising videos on his channel. The announcement comes amid ongoing reports about the reason why Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, was banned from Twitch in 2020.

“We have suspended DrDisrespect’s channel from the YouTube Partner Program following serious allegations made against the creator,” A YouTube spokesperson confirmed to IGN. “This action means that the channel can no longer monetize on YouTube.”

The spokesperson added that the actions taken on Beahm’s channel “for violating our copyright policy”, It should be noted that the behavior of a creator outside the platform “harms our users, employees, or ecosystem, we may take action to protect our community, including by suspending monetization.”

Last week, a former Twitch employee posted on X/Twitter that Beahm was banned from the streaming platform back in 2020 for “sexting” a minor using Twitch’s Whispers feature and attempting to meet her at TwitchCon.

Beahm immediately denied the allegations, but stated that he was unable to respond in detail due to legal obligations surrounding his settlement with Twitch. He confirmed that he was investigated and reached a settlement and that no wrongdoing was found. He also pointed out that Twitch paid him what he was entitled to under his contract.

The reports continued throughout the weekend and on Tuesday of this week, Beahm issued a detailed statement on the allegations. Beahm admitted that he had sent a message to a minor via Twitch Whispers in 2017 and that the conversations “sometimes tends too much towards the inappropriate.” He reiterated that “Nothing illegal happened, no images were shared, no crimes were committed.”

On Thursday of this week, Rolling Stone published an article in which another Twitch employee told the broadcaster that Beahm knew the person he was messaging was underage and continued to send her sexually explicit messages anyway.

Beahm has spent the last few years streaming on YouTube under his name Dr. Disrespect following his Twitch ban in 2020. He posted his last stream on Monday, when he announced he was taking an extended vacation, but confirmed in his Tuesday post that he would be returning. With monetization on YouTube now suspended, it remains to be seen where he will stream if he does indeed return.

YouTube’s decision to stop monetizing is the latest in the ongoing fallout for Beahm as a result of the allegations. He has also lost several major partnerships and sponsorships, including Turtle Beach, 2K and the San Francisco 49ers. Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by Beahm, has also ended its collaboration with him.
