Investigation underway into shooting after lockdown at North Carolina university

CHARLOTTE, NC (TND) — Police are investigating after a shooting led to the lockdown of a university in North Carolina.

According to the school alert system, Wingate University was locked down around 8 p.m.

The school confirmed that a shooting occurred on the campus baseball field and said one person was in custody.

Police confirmed that no member of the campus community was involved in the shooting.

At around 8:30 a.m., the school announced that the threat on campus had ended.

Police are currently investigating and are asking the public to avoid the baseball field.

What led to this incident and whether anyone was injured is currently unclear.
