Two people arrested in connection with the death of a toddler in Christiansburg

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in Christiansburg.

On June 13, Christiansburg police responded to reports of an unresponsive toddler in the 100 block of First Street SW, according to city officials.

According to authorities, the two-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Heather Renee Bentley, 37, and Eric Raymond Thad Callis, 39, both of Christiansburg, were arrested June 28 and charged with child neglect.

Bentley is being held in the Western Virginia Regional Jail and Callis is being held in the Montgomery County Jail, both without bail.

This incident remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
