Body of Sandy man pulled from Green River after rafting accident

The body of a Sandy man was pulled from the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument after reportedly becoming trapped under a raft.

Officials said a group was traveling on a rapid called Hell’s Half Mile on Thursday afternoon when the raft became stuck on a rock. They said one person in the group was missing and suspected he was trapped under the raft.

After the group secured the raft, the person underneath became unresponsive and lost his life jacket and began swimming downstream, officials said.

Officials said river patrol rangers were searching the area to assist the group.

On Friday morning, officials said a commercial rafting company found the 50-year-old man’s body about 10 miles downstream from the original incident.

The man’s identity was not known until Friday evening.
