Child struck by vehicle in Spring Valley, 5th incident of 2024

Another child was struck by a vehicle in Spring Valley on Monday, marking the fifth such incident this year.

The accident occurred on Route 59 near South Cole Avenue just before 7 p.m.

Police told News 12 the child was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where the victim is in critical condition. The child suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Monday’s incident resulted in the fifth child to be hit in the area. The four previous accidents have only involved school buses, with two of these incidents resulting in fatalities. In January, an eight-year-old was killed and two weeks later a five-year-old also died.

Police are still trying to figure out what caused this latest accident, and they say they have been working to understand why something like this keeps happening and to find ways to make the roads safer.
